How To: Paint Your Nails with Loose Glitter

Paint Your Nails with Loose Glitter

Sparkling glitter nail polish is always a popular favorite but buying different bottles to get different colors is a waste of money. You can paint your nails with pure loose glitter in just a few easy steps.

Things You Will Need

  • Bottle of clear nail polish
  • Tube of loose glitter
  • 2 Paper plates

Step 1 Open up your loose glitter.

Remove the cap from the loose glitter. You can use any color glitter or any mixture of colors. Using pure glitter as nail polish gives your nails an extreme sparkle that is very noticeable. This makes it an ideal trend around holidays. Green, red and silver are great for Christmas time. Pastels make a big statement around Easter. Set the glitter aside next to a paper plate on a flat surface.

Step 2 Paint one hand.

Paint all five nails of one hand with one coat of clear nail polish.

Step 3 Sprinkle glitter over painted hand.

Hold your painted hand over the paper plate and sprinkle loose glitter slowly over each nail while it is still wet from the clear paint. Make sure each nail is well covered in glitter.

Step 4 Shake off excess.

Shake off the excess glitter over the paper plate.

Step 5 Wait for glitter to set.

Wait at least 5 minutes to let the glitter set in the clear nail polish as it dries.

Step 6 Apply clear nail polish.

Apply a coat of clear nail polish over the glitter. This will adhere the glitter to your nail from the top and the bottom. Wait ten minutes and apply a second coat of clear nail polish over the glitter.

Step 7 Dry your hand.

Allow the finished hand to dry for 30 minutes in front of a fan or for one hour without a fan. The paint and glitter will be very thick so it takes a while to dry. The results will be far better than you can get from any standard glitter polish. If you want sparkling nails, it's worth the wait.

Step 8 Repeat on other hand.

Repeat all steps on the other hand. If you allow the glitter to set and dry completely the nails will stay fresh looking and chip free for well over a week.

Tips

  • Super fine glitter looks best for everyday wear.
  • Full size "chunky" craft glitter is best for holiday wear.

I just want to say that over the time I have been doing nails I learned that fans mess up your nails, allowing them to dry on their own is a much better option.
